Ed eccoli qui gli amici scandinavi che si appropriano di un record che non spetta loro. A fine mese si terrà la Årefjällsloppet 24H a Vålådalen, in Svezia dove sono annunciati tre fondisti di alto rango che tenteranno di battere l’attuale record del mondo. Secondo quanto affermato nel comunicato che riportiamo in originale, il detentore del record sarebbe il finlandese Teemu Virtanen che ha sciato per 24 ore la distanza di 433 chilometri. Quando e dove non ci è dato saperlo, ma non è un problema.

How far can you ski for 24 hours? The current world record in long-distance skiing is 433 km and the current record holder is Teemu Virtanen from Finland. Årefjällsloppet 24h is a world record attempt where Teemu will try to beat his record at the same time as he will be challenged by Swedish long-distance skier Erik Wickström, as well as the Russian long-distance skier Denis Kabanen.
-It is very exciting to test the limits of your body and it will be a challenge both physically and mentally, says Erik Wickström, who has finished on 25th place in Vasaloppet and has won Engelbrektsloppet.
The world record attempt will start on Thursday, 31st March at 11.00 and finish at 11.00 on Friday 1st April. It will take place on a 400 m loop in Vålådalen.
-Ultra competitions for running has been growing steady and I think this can be a good start for similar competitions within long-distance skiing. The world record is a lot depending on the weather and how we do mentally, says Erik.
Teemu Virtanen is the current record holder and knows what to expect.
-In this kind of competition you learn a lot about yourself. How much can you take and how far can you push yourself? When you think you’re dying, you might actually just be half-way through. You can push yourself much more than you think, that’s something I’ve learned from the 24h race. 433 km is a very long distance, it’s like five Vasaloppet straight after each other, says Teemu.
Poiché la cosa non ci suonava giusta, siamo andati a consultare gli archivi della nostra redazione, ed ecco cosa risulta: alla quinta e ultima edizione della 24 h di Andalo l’altoatesino Martin Planker sciò la distanza di 440,632 chilometri (vedi immagine in coda all’articolo). Era il 1996! Date a Cesare quello che è di Cesare.
Tuttavia va detto, a chiarimento della comunicazione svedese, che la gara di Planker fu a tecnica libera, mentre quella che annunciano in occasione della gara di Vålådalen il prossimo 31 marzo sarà a tecnica classica. E poi secondo noi, non si dovrebbe parlare di record mondiale (troppe le variabili) ma di miglior prestazione mondiale. Finezze…
