SUCCESS ALL ALONG THE LINE FOR FISCHER AT THE HOME WCH

At the World Championships on home soil (Hochfilzen, AUT), just 140 km from the headquarters of the family-held company in Ried, Upper Austria, the Fischer Race Family athletes almost outshone the sun with the radiance of their smiles and medals. And they had good reason to smile: Fischer once again dominated the thrilling competition as the most successful ski and boot brand.

Expressed in figures, the achievements read like a hunt for records: 62% of the medals were won on Fischer skis and 52% in Fischer boots. That means that 37 of the 60 medals, namely 12 golds, 12 silvers and 13 bronzes, were won by athletes using the yellow and black equipment.

Leading the way: the new biathlon queen Laura Dahlmeier (GER)**. The world champion in five events and silver medallist in Hochfilzen has made history as the most successful biathlete at World Championships and has set a record that will be hard to beat. “These World Championships were perfect for me and it’s nothing short of brilliant,” says the outstanding athlete at these Championships, putting her performance in a nutshell.

Overall, it was the ladies in the Fischer Race Family who set the pace for others to follow at this festival in yellow and black. Apart from one bronze, they scooped every single medal in the individual disciplines. In the relay events, on the other hand, it was the men who dominated, with the world champions from Russia and the bronze medallists from Austria each comprising four athletes who were evidently right to put their faith in Fischer.

Among the men, Johannes Thingnes Bø (NOR)** with three silvers was the most diligent medal collector. But Gabriela Koukalova (CZE)* with a full set of medals, Anton Shipulin (RUS)** with gold and bronze, Quentin Fillon Maillet (FRA)** with two silver and Simon Eder (AUT)** with two bronze medals also contributed significantly to sending the medal tally of the Nordic number one soaring. Accordingly, the faces at Fischer are wearing expressions of satisfaction. “We share our athletes’ delight at their outstanding successes in Hochfilzen,” says Gerhard Urain, Nordic Racing Director. “A great deal of work has been put into this by a large team who I’d like to congratulate along with our athletes.”

It was notably often the case that skis and boots from the forthcoming 17l18 Speedmax series, which had not been handed over to the athletes until shortly before the World Championships, were used. Thomas Drindl, head of the Nordic Division at Fischer, adds, “When the athletes choose the new equipment so often and evidently with such resounding success, it is the greatest possible vindication of our intensive development work. We will always remember the extremely exciting contests we saw at the World Championships in Hochfilzen. It was a perfect advertisement for winter sports. Of course we hope that the fantastic pictures we’ve seen of athletes who are as likeable as they are successful will have a long-term positive effect on sales. We congratulate all the athletes in the Fischer Race Family on their individual successes and outstanding results.”
